FLASHBACK FRIDAY – ON THE MATTERHORN SUMMIT AGAIN WITH MY SON
When my son Brandon turned 14, he asked me, “Dad, you climbed the Matterhorn at 14. Could we climb the Matterhorn together now that I’m 14?” It was 1998 and I was 54. I didn’t think I could do it, but his request meant more than the world to me, so I agreed. Each with our own bergführer guide, he breezed up, but it was a real struggle for me.
He made it, my guide didn’t think I could, so after summiting, Brandon came back down to get me. We climbed the last 500 feet together. Thus here we both are on the summit of the world’s most famous mountain. There are no words to come close to expressing what this means to each of us. If you think that it was a revolt of the peasants against the aristocrats and royalty, you are in for a surprise. It’s increasingly clear to the average American that if riots come to your neighborhood, you’re on your own.
Consequently, as violence appears to surge in America's cities, millions of Americans have become first-time gun owners. Call it the riots’ silver lining.
THE LAND OF THE DRAGON’S BLOOD TREE
This is the Dragon’s Blood Tree, Dracaena cinnabari. It can be found in only one place on earth, a remote island called a Lost World for its uniqueness, the “most alien-looking place on our planet.”
Although it’s known as the most alien, strangest, weirdest, and bizarre place you can go to, it’s also completely safe and incredibly beautiful. Anybody who comes here returns saying, “You have to see it to believe it.” What is this place?
It’s the World Heritage Site of the island of Socotra, the “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean,” 240 miles off the coast of Yemen and now secured by the UAE. It’s hidden, remote, and far away.

THE MOST TOTALLY CORRUPT CRIMINAL SCAM IN WORLD HISTORY
I call it the COVID Con. Last Wednesday (8/26), CDC issued its latest Coronavirus Disease Update. What you see above is Table 3 on Comorbidities. Don’t lose your mind or temper when you read: ”For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned.”
It lists the total number of deaths “involving” Covid-19 as 161,392. 6% of that is 9,684 – since February. Add up all the deaths under 55 – 13,300 – 6% is 798 in the last six-plus months. To compound the farce: “For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.”
Most of those dying with the Chinese Flu didn’t have just one serious underlying medical condition, like diabetes or obesity – they had two or more, diabetes and a respiratory disease, obesity and kidney failure, hypertension and heart disease or some other life-threatening combo. These were very sick people to begin with.
And we’re learning this now?
NEW YORK CITY HAD IT COMING
What do you expect when New Yorkers elect a Communist for their mayor – twice?
I used to love New York City. There was so much to do and see, but if one were from the heartland like me, one could be perfectly content to just walk the streets and look at architecture and people.
One might seek out venues one had seen in the movies, such as in Woody Allen’s Manhattan; perhaps Elaine’s. And when one got weary from walking, one could sit down at one of two major opera houses. And after a performance one might grab a beer at P.J. Clark’s across the street from the Met and muse about what a wonderful city one was visiting, where the Bronx is up and the Battery’s down.
It really was a helluva town. Tragically, I used to love New York City, but there’s not much left to love. In fact, many are saying the city is dead and isn’t coming back.
BALLOONS OVER BURMA
From the 900s to the 1200s, the Pagan Empire built over 10,000 Buddhist temples. 2,200 remain on the plains of Pagan today, one of the world’s most wondrous sights – especially if you see them from above in a hot air balloon. It is truly astounding how much there is to explore and experience in Burma. We’ll be there once more for it all next February. I hope you will be one of your fellow TTPers to join us. IS IT OVER FOR JOE ALREADY?
Yes, he actually asked this question to his audience yesterday (8/31) in Pittsburgh on his first “campaign stop” rally since emerging from his basement.
The words “audience” for his “rally” need to be in sarcasm quotes, as only a few dozen people showed up along with seven reporters. How pathetic can you get?
Joe Biden is in the Catch-22 of his political career. If he stays in his basement, he faces the legitimate question of whether he’s fit — both physically and mentally — to assume the duties of the presidency. If he hits the campaign trail, he runs the risk of… Pittsburgh.
The latter wasn’t a pretty sight. At all. Put another way, Joe had a very bad day in Pittsburgh. A really bad day. And social media on both sides knows it.
