WORSHIPPING THE WICKED

You’ve all seen the news clips of North Koreans in a state of religious lamentation, grieving their guts out over the death of their dictator Kim Jong-il.  Cynics who have never been there claim the tears are fake. Nope, the tears are real.  And what’s more, all those Norks in mourning believe the entire world mourns with them.

They would be stunned literally beyond belief to hear that their Dear Leader was regarded as a little fat nebbish laughingstock for all normal people on the rest of the planet.  This was epitomized by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone in the funniest movie of modern times, Team America (TTP October 2004).

After Kim throws UN nuclear negotiator Hans Blix ("Hans Brix") into a shark tank where he is ripped to shreds, Kim launches into a song:  "I’m so ronery… so sadry and ronery arone…"  It’s the classic portrayal of Kim Jong-il as a joke (F-bomb alert – Kim drops the F-bomb once at the start, then not again):

It’s hilarious.  It’s fun to laugh at him as we do at Hitler in any of the countless Hitler Finds Out spoofs.  But like Hitler, Kim Jong-il in reality was a hideously evil ogre, not a joke.  He caused the deaths by famine of millions of his countrymen, and forced those left to live in impoverishment and the most brutal tyranny.

Senator John McCain expressed it well upon hearing of Kim’s death:  "I can only express satisfaction that the Dear Leader is joining the likes of Gaddafi, Bin Laden, Hitler, and Stalin in a warm corner of hell."

Yet millions of North Koreans are crying in genuine anguish today.  How is this possible?  As explained in Pelosi in Pyongyang (September 2010), North Korea is Orwell’s 1984 made real – where folks really do love Big Brother, passionately.  They do in fact religiously worship North Korea’s founder (and Kim Jong-il’s father) Kim Il-sung (1912-1994).  And Kim Il-sung was even more of a fascist monster than his son.

The human capacity to worship evil, to worship the wicked, has puzzled me for a long time, ever since I went to the Soviet Union when I was 14 years old back in 1958.  I told the story in A Knife Edge In The Sky, recounted here so you don’t have to wade through the entire essay to find it, and because it describes exactly the same phenomenon as we’re seeing today in Norkland:

(Our Intourist guide) Valya took us to Red Square where I was entranced by the fabulous St. Basil’s Cathedral built 400 years ago by Russia’s first Czar, Ivan the Terrible (1530-1584), and named after an eccentric Russian saint known as Basil the Blessed (1468-1552).  Then we went to Lenin’s Tomb.

On the Kremlin side of Red Square, it housed the waxy embalmed corpse of the Soviet Union’s founder, Vladimir Lenin, who died in 1924 – and that of Joseph Stalin as well, who had died just a few years ago in 1953[1].  A huge line of Russians, hundreds of people, waited their turn to enter and see the corpses encased in glass displays.

Valya took us to the front of the line, as we were "foreign guests."  Everyone from the guards to the people in line to Valya were so reverential, as if this were a holy, sacred place.  There was complete silence as we entered the tomb with a number of Russians and proceeded past the two bodies under glass, nobody making the slightest sound.  It was impossibly creepy.

It was also hard for me not to laugh.  All over Moscow we had seen huge statues of Lenin and Stalin, making them look like giants towering above the rest of us mere pygmies.  Yet I had learned in the research I’d done back home that they were not much taller than midgets – Lenin was five-foot-one, while Stalin was only a couple of inches taller[2]

What really got to me was all the pretending that these two monsters were moral giants.  What would the world think of Germans flocking to the tomb of Hitler, with Hitler’s body on display under glass and worshipped?

I was only 14, yet I knew that these men had murdered millions, that they were among the most evil men who had ever lived, that they were moral equivalents of Hitler.  The reverential silence, the worship of evil, displayed by these Russians all around me as we slowly shuffled past their corpses was terrifying and mysterious.  Suddenly, I didn’t want to laugh.

When we came out again onto Red Square, I felt overwhelmed by a question:  Why would people worship evil?

Why would they worship monsters as heroes, monsters who took away their freedom, who slaughtered and starved them, put them in concentration camps, caused them to live a life of fear?

It’s important to answer this question, not only to make sense of Nork despondency, but to make sense of its diluted version that we must ask here in America, Why would people worship the wicked?

Zero and his minions are not evil.  To compare Zero to Hitler, Stalin, or Kim Il-sung is to trivialize evil.  He is not planning a Holocaust or Holodomor of mass death.  But he is not a good man.  He is a wicked man who means us harm.  He intends to be worshipped and obeyed.  And the means by which he plans to achieve this are the same as that of the Kims of North Korea.

The answer to the question, Why would people worship evil, why would people worship the wicked?, is one word:  helplessness.

When people feel helpless, they submit.  When people feel helplessly dependent, they bow down in obedience to those they are dependent upon.  An old aphorism explains this exactly:

"When you have a man by the balls, his heart and mind will follow."

Folks, this explains the worship of Lenin in Russia, the worship of the Kims in North Korea, and the electoral strategy of the Democrat Party in America.

Today (12/22), Rasmussen is reporting Zero’s approval nationwide at 49% yes/50% no, split down the middle.  The game is to make as many Americans dependent on government handouts as possible for as long as possible – for the longer people are on the dole, the more they feel helpless without it.

This is why Zero and the Dems want as many people as possible – over 40 million now at last count – on food stamps permanently.

This is why Zero and the Dems are waging the battle to keep extending unemployment benefit checks into perpetuity.  They have no intention of creating jobs.  That would get people self-supporting and independent, the last thing they want.

This is why Zero and the Dems wanted the payroll tax cut in the first place, and now want to make it permanent, in order to convert Social Security into a straight-off welfare program.

Of course, the spineless-brainless Republicans are getting snookered as always.

Now for scariest question.  There are gradations of evil.  On that scale, Zero is presently on the wicked level. What capacity does he have to rise to a higher level?  We don’t want to find out, which is why it’s so imperative that he be soundly defeated next November.  For we will find out if, through massive voter fraud (which we know the Dems are planning) and making enough voters helplessly dependent on government, he gets reelected.

In that case, the one thing that will stand between him and full dictatorial control is the hundreds of millions of guns and billions of rounds of ammo in private hands.  Which is why the federal government’s militarization of local police departments across the country is nightmarishly ominous.

DHS is pouring billions into turning local police into massively-armed SWAT Team fascisti.  Actually, this has been going on for years under the DEA’s excuse of the War on Drugs, and is now accelerated by the DHS excuse of the War on Terrorism.  So now the police of Fargo, North Dakota have a quarter-million dollar armored car with a .50 cal machine gun turret.

Zero was elected in 2008 in a spasm of masochistic insanity worshipping him as a secular Messiah.  The bloom is off that rose for millions of voters.  Yet in the meantime, he has struggled mightily to make millions feel helplessly dependent upon him.  It is a clear and growing possibility that the latter will end up outvoting (especially with the cheating) the former.

Pelosi in Pyongyang lays out why North Korea is the Democrats’ ideal state, their pre-industrial totalitarian model for America.  With Zero’s reelection, they would have the opportunity to turn their ideal into reality.  Zero would have the temptation to move from wicked to evil.

After all, anyone sociopathic enough to think that he’s the fourth-best president in US history (behind FDR, LBJ, and Lincoln, but way ahead of Washington, Jefferson, and Reagan) when he’s worse than Jimmy Carter, definitely has the capacity to go for the Full Kim Jong-il Monty.

If Zero wins next year, the only way to prevent him from "Going Kim" will be horrendously bloody and violent.  From now until next November, we have the chance to choose ballots rather than bullets.  The capacity to worship wickedness and evil is in Americans as it is in North Koreans, for we are all human.  We cannot give that capacity to flourish among us any longer.

[1] .  Stalin’s corpse was removed from Lenin’s tomb on the order of Nikita Khrushchev in 1961, and buried some 300 feet away under the Kremlin wall along with a number of minor Soviet figures.

[2] .  Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, who adopted the made-up pseudonym of Lenin, was five-one according to British Marxist historian of the Soviet Union, Eric Hobsbawn.  Iosef Vissarionovich Djugashvili, who adopted the pseudonym of Stalin (meaning ‘steel’ in Russian), measured according to police records in 1902 at age 23 "2 archin 4½ vershoks."  An archin is 28 inches, a vershok 1¾ inches, which makes Stalin less than five-four.
