MEXICAN NAZIS
[This Monday’s Archive was originally published on May 26, 2005. There’s an old saying, The more things change, the more they stay the same. Unfortunately this has been so very true as evidenced in LA and other cities right now. Let’s hope the current political cycle can see some permanent change in our relationship with Mexico.]
Recognize this home?
You would if you ever watched the TV series Fantasy Island. It was the home of Mr. Roarke, played by Ricardo Montalban. Not a set but a real 19th century mansion, it’s on the grounds of the Los Angeles Arboretum next to the Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, an LA suburb. The home, the track, and the suburb were built, along with much else, by one of the more fascinating characters in California history, Elias J. “Lucky” Baldwin.
Starting out penniless (he crossed the West in a covered wagon), and having made multiple fortunes in the California gold rush, the Nevada silver rush, and New York real estate, he came to Southern California in 1875.
The San Gabriel Valley east of LA was sparsely inhabited farmland back then, but Lucky saw it as a place where people could have homes and communities. He bought square miles of it for a few dollars an acre, and created a number of cities, among them Arcadia, Monrovia, and Baldwin Park.
You would think there would be a statue of its founder in Baldwin Park, in tribute to Lucky Baldwin as an embodiment of American vision and capitalism. But there is not. Instead there is this:
A monument to racism.
A monument to anti-white racist hatred and bigotry. Here are two of its inscriptions:
(This land was Mexican once, was Indian always, and is and will be again)
They, of course, are the hated “Anglos,” the white European-Americans who “stole” the land from Mexico – who stole it from Spain who stole it from Indian tribes such as the Chumash (not the Aztecs, whose empire was in central Mexico, 2,000 miles away from LA), who stole it from other Indian tribes like the Shoshone.
Two weeks ago on May 14, a small group of folks staged a peaceful rally to demand the removal of the racist monument, which is on public property and was erected by the city council at taxpayer expense. The rally was met by a far larger, violent counter-demonstration led by an organization of Mexican Nazis who call themselves Reconquistas.
These are people who want to “reconquer” the entire American Southwest ceded to the US in 1848 and have it become part of Mexico again. What makes them Nazis is their pathological anti-Semitism. Their hatred for America is equaled only by their hatred of Jews.
One of them yelled at a television cameraman at the Baldwin Park fracas: “Too bad Osama Bin Laden didn’t drop a hydrogen bomb on that Jewish s**thole town Manhattan.” The TV video can be seen here.
One of the Reconquista chants was “Go back to Europe, go back to England, Gringos.” Another was, “Viva (long live) Zarqawi, the Gringo Killer,” in praise of arch-terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s killing American soldiers in Iraq.
On their website, Aztlan (referring to their crackpot theory that the American Southwest was the Aztec homeland of “Aztlan”), about half of the links are to anti-Semitic sites – including one demanding an end to “certified Kosher” labels on food products called the “Kosher Nostra Scam.”
The principal organizer of the Reconquistas is a student organization called MEChA – Movimiento Estudiantil de Chicanos de Aztlan – The Student Movement of Aztlan Chicanos, with dozens of chapters in California schools. A requirement for MEChA membership is an agreement to work for “the liberation of Aztlan,” including “the physical liberation of Occupied America.”
MEChA’s motto, as stated in its founding document, The Spiritual Plan of Aztlan, could not possibly be more racist: Por La Raza Todo, Fuera de La Raza Nada: for the race (their own “bronze” race), everything; outside the race, nothing.
I first wrote about the Reconquistas two years ago in America’s Curse. Since then, they have become ever more explicitly and virulently pro-terrorist. The Baldwin Park incident this month is simply the latest example of how impossibly dangerous Mexican illegal immigration has become to America’s national security.
That George W. Bush is obdurately oblivious to this threat is far and away the greatest mystery of his presidency. I get more questions from TTPers on this than any other subject, and my reply frustratingly remains that his willful, perverse refusal to recognize the Mexican Nazi/Mexican illegal immigration threat baffles me. If any of you have a cogent explanation, I’d like to hear it.
The cosmic irony of the Mexican Reconquista movement is that it’s illiterately unaware of the original Reconquista, the centuries-long struggle of Christian Spain to be free of Moslem rule. The Arab invaders, called Moors by the Spanish, began their conquest of Spain in the early 700s. It took almost 800 years for the native Spanish Christians to finally kick them out.
The patron saint of the Spanish Christian knights was St. James – in Spanish, Santiago. He was worshipped as Santiago Matamoros – St. James the Moor-Killer. He remains the patron saint of Spain to this day. Here is a statue of him in a church in Palencia province, northern Spain:
The defeated enemies his horse is trampling over are Moors, Arab Moslems.
Today in America, Christian knights are called Minutemen. They are leading a real Reconquista to liberate their country from an alien conquering invasion. It is the Minutemen and other pro-American patriots that are the true Reconquistas, who understand the choice that must be made:
Either the illegal invasion from Mexico is stopped and all illegals deported back to Mexico, or there will be a Second Civil War waged to break America apart.
It is no doubt true that the majority of Mexican-Americans are decent peaceful people, who did not come to America illegally, are not pro-terrorist Mexican Nazis, and can be as proud of their cultural contribution to America as anyone else. Equally true is that they cannot be a Silent Majority tolerating Nazism in their midst. Mexican-Americans have an obligation to stand up to and eject racist radicals out of their communities.
The man to best call for this obligation to be fulfilled is obviously Antonio Villaraigosa, elected Mayor of Los Angeles last week on May 17. There’s just one problem. When he was a student at UCLA in 1974, he was president of the UCLA chapter of MEChA . In the 31 years since, Los Angeles’ Hispanic mayor-elect has yet to clearly and publicly denounce the concept of Aztlan. In the two weeks since the Baldwin Park incident, he has yet to denounce the Mexican Nazi participants.
Which will thrive under the mayoralty of Antonio Villaraigosa: peaceful and patriotic Mexican-American citizens, or Mexican Nazis and illegals? Both can’t. The thriving of one requires the diminishing of the other. One can always hope, but as for me, I was born and grew up in LA, got my B.A. at UCLA, doctorate at USC, and spent most of my life there. I’m glad I don’t live there any longer.
